Art Track
What is the Art Track?
The Art Track is a part of the Artists' Alley that selects and promotes artists, as well as creating artist activities to be joined in.
This year's featured artists are:
The Comiku Girls
The Comiku Girls, Akiko Meigetsu & Li Izumi, are not your typical otaku... Or at least they like to think so. Each has had a pencil in their hand since they could hold one, & have been telling stories since they could talk. At conventions, they are artists, cosplayers, & Japanese cultural panelists. They write the web comic "Comiku Girls", which centers on convention life from the inside, & the occasional life in between. Akiko is an artist, working in both digital and traditional media (watercolor and Asian brushpainting). Li has studied Japanese language & culture for over a decade, including a semester in Akita, Japan. Currently, she is a Master's student in Japanese Studies. None of which explains their sense of humor.
Sketch (Artist/Cosplayer):
Sketch is a local New England artist, cosplayer, and con personality. Though holding down a job as a flute maker, he spends his time brainstorming cosplay ventures like a crack addict. Seriously, propose an inquiry about "how to?" to him and his head will rev up like an over clocked computer till it spews out an answer.
After his cosplay debut at Anime Boston 2004 as the now legendary "Leathery Vash" cosplayer, Sketch has continued to push the boundaries of the New England cosplay scene with elaborate cosplay after cosplay. Even if it took him three years to still not be done. ("HEY!!... Okay, you're right." -Sketch) He followed up with Lynx from the PS1 game Chrono Cross in '05. He's tormented Ed Elrics over countless cons as his Hohenheim of Light, delighted us with his Pervy Sage Jiraiya hosting dating games, quested for Kingdom Hearts as the Organization 13 leader Xemnas, and shadowing these is his creation of the TV headed robot, Canti (FLCL).
Sketch's classic training is in illustration, getting his BFA in '04, has been found off n' on in artist alleys showing off his art. But, being a constant student of life he sought out other forms of art in sculpture, sewing, electronics, and basket weaving... wait what?! He's known by his convention colleagues as someone who can figure out how to make anything. This is usually found in his ability to craft fantasy into reality with his prop making. His soon to be redesigned site SketchedOutLife.com offers the public, free of charge, insight to Sketch's plots of world domination. ...or that it's just a growing interactive portfolio. From cosplay to web comics, it'll someday be updated to share. >.>
Artists' Alley Trading Cards (AATC) Acitivity:
This is currently the only Artist Activity we have going. Based on other trading cards going around the net, some of the artists at Anime Boston suggested this activity and we've fleshed it out quite a bit. Many artists seemed to enjoy this activity, and this will be its second appearance (that we know of) since it started. We welcome other cons to adopt this if anyone would like to.
